South Florida Business Journal contained a panel discussion on international business opportunities helping pull South Florida pull out of the recession. David Garcia, Chair of the Corporate Department at Zumpano Patricios & Winker, was extensively quoted cross-border investment opportunities. Mr. Garcia’s comments were focused on entrepreneurs reinvesting in core businesses, stating that this is “a risk profile where they feel they have their comfort zone, they’re entrepreneurs who have built wealth. That includes acquisition of smaller businesses to consolidate their operations or getting back into businesses where they made their wealth.”

The article cites Garcia’s experience as former general counsel of PSEG Americas, the international development subsidiary of Public Service Enterprise Group. The article goes on to discuss his experience in leading “several high-profile cross-border transactions including contracts, complex financing, debt restructuring and mergers and acquisitions.”

“Piercing a Bahamian Trust”, South Florida Legal Guide 2009 Midyear Report

July 2009

The South Florida Legal Guide 2009 Midyear Report prominently featured an article on the recent success of Joseph Zumpano in his seven-year battle to recover funds held in a Bahamian Trust on behalf of a divorcee whose husband had fled the United States and absconded with the couple’s considerable assets to the Bahamas.  Ultimately Mr. Zumpano, along with Leon Patricios and their team, were able to pierce the Bahamian Trust.  The court ordered the turnover of approximately $4 million in assets to our client.  Mr. Zumpano stated in the article that “[t]his was an incredibly important case in that a Bahamian court saw the reality of what occurred and stood up for justice and rule of law.”

Steven Burres’ article “Who Controls My Medical Records” was featured in The South Florida Legal Guide 2009 Midyear Report.  The article provided a primer on Florida law regarding patient records and an outline of the procedures for requesting a copy of patient medical records.
